Easy Dragon head tutorial 1

I don't really have a technique for drawing dragon heads, I just ... do it o___o

but I do have a method for people who ask me how to do it, it may not be the best one out there but I hope it hellps.

TIPS!

-I used a triangle, but you can try other shapes, like a rhombus, a rectangle, an oval... it all depends on how you want your dragon to look like, triangles work great for light to medium heads, rectangles work for heavier dragons.

-You can change the lenght of the mouth depending on what you want, little mouths look dainty, big mouths look fierce.

- The size and shape of the eyes is up to your taste, still try to avoid HUGHE eyes, they don't look too good on dragons.

-The shape and lenght of the horns or spikes is up to you

-Use real animals as reference! try borrowing the shape of the head, jaw, teeth, etc. from dinosaur skulls, the eyes from birds or snakes, the horns from antelopes, the scales from fish, etc.

-have fun! just play around with shapes and lines untill you find a method or shape that works for you.

TECHNIQUE

1- start with a triangle (or whatever shape you chose)

2- add lines to the upper and lower corners of your triangle.

3- erase the corners, this should make your triangle look a bit more like a skull.

4- draw a straight line to form the mouth.

5- draw a small diagonal line, facing upwards. looks like it's smiling doesn't it?

6- draw a long, horizontal like from the end of the "smiley" line to the back of the skull, now you know where the upper and lower jaws are.

7- draw a circle on the back of the head, that's where the skull dome is.

8- add the neck, the thickness, shape and lenght are up to you.

9- add circles or ovals where you want the eyes to be. mark the place where the horns will be with small lines.

10- define the shape of the horns.

11- add nostrills and refine the details of the head.

12- define the shape of the eyes, if you like you can add a circle parting from the farthest corner of the eye to mark the place where ears or spikes will be.
Place small lines where you want the spikes to be.

13- Draw the iris on the eye, draw more details to the spikes and horns. Now you can add the basic shape of spikes or ears, attaching it to the circle you previously drew.
draw a line from the "cheek" towards the end of the neck, that's where the "belly" scales will go.

14- continue adding more details to the spikes/ears, and draw diagonal lines to form the belly scales.

15- This one is a bit tricky: we're going to define the places where the major scales will go, you just have to divide the face and neck in several parts:
- one "eyebrow" above the eye
-one "bag" below the eye
- a dog-like "nose" around the nostrills
-a "bridge" that goes from the "dog nose" to the eye
-a line in the middle of the neck
-a line just a bit above that one.

Realmente no tengo una técnica para dibujar dragones, solo.... lo hago o___o

lo que si tengo es un método para la gente que me pregunta como lo hago, tal vez no sea el mejor pero espero que les sirva.

TIPS!

-Use un triangulo pero pueden usar cualquier otra figura, como un rombo, depende de como quieran que se vea su dragón, los triángulos son para cabezas delgadas, los rectángulos para unas mas gruesas.

-Puedes cambiar lo largo de la boca dependiendo de lo que quieras, las bocas pequeñas se ven femeninas o delicadas, las grandes se ven feroces.

- El tamaño y la forma de los ojos depende de ustedes, aun así eviten ojos ENORMES, no se ven bien en un dragón.

-La forma y tamaño de los cuernos depende de ustedes

-Usen animales reales como referencia, por ejemplo, consideren un craneo de dinosaurio para la cabeza, la mandibula y los dientes, observen serpientes o aves para los ojos, antilopes para los cuernos, peces o reptiles para las escamas, etc.

-Diviertanse! jueguen con las formas y las lineas hasta que encuentren algo que les guste.

TECNICA

1- empiecen con un triangulo (o cualquier otra forma)

2- dibujen lineas en dos de las esquinas

3- borren las lineas, esto debe darles una forma parecida a la de un craneo.

4- dibujen una linea recta para formar la boca

5- dibujen una linea diagonal pequeña hacia arriba. no importa que parezca una sonrisa.

6- dibujen una linea horizontal desde la "sonrisa" hasta la parte de atras del craneo, ahora ya quedaron divididas la mandibula de abajo y la de arriba.

7- hagan un circulo en la parte de atrás de la cabeza para formar la bóveda craneal.

8- dibujen el cuello, la forma y grosor depende de ustedes.

9- pongan circulos en donde van a ir los ojos. marquen el lugar de donde van a salir los cuernos.

10- define la forma de los cuernos

11- pongan los orificios de la nariz y refinen los detalles de la cabeza

12- define la forma de los ojos, si gustan pongan un circulo partiendo desde la parte trasera de los ojos para agregar los picos/orejas.
Pongan lineas en el cuello donde quieres que vayan los picos.

13- Dibuja el iris de los ojos y mas detalles a los picos y cuernos. Puedes agregar lineas que marquen en donde van a ir los picos/orejas en el circulo que dibujaste en el paso anterior.
dibuja una linea desde el "cachete" hasta la base del cuello, ahi es donde van a ir las escamas de la panza.

14- continua agregando detalles a los picos/orejas y dibuja lineas diagonales para formar las escamas de la panza.

15- Esta parte es un poco engañosa: vamos a definir los lugares en los que van a ir las escamas mas grandes, tienen que dividir la cara y el cuello en diferentes partes:
- una "ceja" arriba del ojo
-una "ojera" abajo del ojo
- una "nariz" como de perro alrededor de los ollares
-un "puente" desde la nariz hasta el ojo
-una linea a la mitad del cuello
-una linea un poco arriba de esa.
